A New Beginning

It's Monday...a new week...a new beginning and I have some choices to make:
- to study and have a good attitude towards learning Spanish

- to be encouraging and supportive to my teammates and those around me

- to trust God and give Him control

- to not fear the unknown that occurs everyday here and overcome the sometimes need to stay in my home that is my safe place

- to continue to get to know my new neighbors and feel at home here

- to make each day count

- to not become immune to the hardship and hurt around me

- to pray for insight into not only how God wants me to work with youth here but also how He wants me to be a part of the everyday life here in ways that I may not be expecting

Please pray that I will make the right choices this week
and that I will see with God's eyes
and feel with God's heart.

A question for you...what are the choices you need to make this week?

'Til next time,
rebecca

First thoughts

This is my first attempt at a blog...I hope you’ll bear with me during this time of learning. I admit that I’m a bit nervous about putting pictures, my thoughts, what’s happening in life and ministry here in Bolivia on the internet for anybody to read but I’m hoping that this will help me learn and process what I’m experiencing and will help those of you who are interested to better understand Bolivian culture, life, jovenes (young adults), my ministry, etc.
I’m in my first year of language and culture learning here in Cochabamba before I begin full-time ministry with the jovenes throughout Bolivia. I work with CBM (Canadian Baptist Ministries) who has a partnership with the Bolivia Baptist Union. This year is a time of heavy learning and observing and I admit that there is so much potential here for involvement with the Jovenes (they number over 60% of the population) that it’s overwhelming but I’m praying that God will continue to guide me in the best direction.
As my Spanish improves, I’m becoming more involved with activities of the Jovenes...mostly here in Cochabamba but gradually in other areas of the country as well. I’m really enjoying getting to know them and learning from them. I’ve also started to have groups over to my place. I’m hoping within the next couple of weeks to have a few girls over to start teaching me some Bolivian cooking – should be interesting! I’ll let you know how it goes and post some pictures as well.
My plan is to do a blog update at least once a week along with prayer requests, interesting facts, etc. Please have patience with me in the first few weeks as I smooth out the rough edges with it. Sometimes I wonder if technology is allergic to me...

Til next time...
Rebecca
